To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and
The affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and
Endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better whether by
A healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
Climb every mountain, Search high
and low.
Follow every by way, Every path you know.
Climb every mountain, Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow
Till you find your dream.
A dream that will need all the love you can give.
Every day of your life for as long as you live.
Climb every mountain, Ford every stream.
Follow every rainbow
Till you find your dream.
A dream that will need all the love you can give
Every day of your life for as long as you live.
Climb every mountain, Ford every stream.
Follow every rainbow
Till you find your dream.
DESIDERATA
Go placidly amid the noise and the
haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with
all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen
to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the
spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and
bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than
yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full
of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons
strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity
and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering
the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the
stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe
is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to
be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion
of life, keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a
beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
I know of no more encouraging fact
than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by
a concious endeavor.
Those who educate children well are
more to be honored than parents, for these only gave life, those
the art of living well.
Never let your sense of morals get
in the way of doing what is right.
If I am not for my self, who will
be for me?
If I am not for others, what am I?
And if not now, when?
What sane person could live in this
world and not be crazy?
The shortest and surest way to live
with honor in the world is to be in reality what we would appear
to be; all human virtues increase and strenghthen themselves
by the practice and experience of them.
What makes a man a Christian is neither
his intellectual acceptance of certain ideas, nor his conformity
to a certain rule, but his possession of a certain spirit, and
his participation in a certain life.
A little consideration, little thought
for others, make all the difference.
Often people attempt to live their
lives backwards; they try to have more things, or more money,
in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier.
The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who
you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have
what you want.
Be everywhere, do everything, and
never fail to astonish the customer.
Be not afraid of going slowly; be
only afraid of standing still.
Let us endeavour to live that when
we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry.
There are two kinds of truth, small
truth and great truth. You can recognize a small truth because
it is the opposite of a falsehood. The opposite of a great truth
is another truth.
Know people for who they are rather
than for what they are.
How I wish that somewhere there existed
an island for those who are wise and of good will.
Do not believe in anything simply
because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored
by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written
in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers
and elders.
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down
for many generations
But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything
agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of
one and all,then accept it and live up to it.
